Which account setup should the recommendation start with?
Think about the address you actually need to use, not just the app whose appearance appeals to you. Choosing another email app does not necessarily mean choosing another email address.

Why we ask
Account compatibility comes before convenience features. Outlook explicitly lists several account types, including Exchange and Microsoft 365. Gmail describes switching between providers, while Spark describes bringing several providers into one inbox. Proton's supplied description focuses on Proton addresses and multiple Proton accounts, rather than presenting the app as a general inbox for existing outside providers.
Account support described in Google Play
- Gmail
- Gmail is Google's official email app. Its listing describes multiple-account support and switching between accounts from different email providers, alongside features built around Gmail and Google Workspace.
- Microsoft Outlook
- Outlook explicitly names Microsoft Exchange, Microsoft 365, Outlook.com, Gmail, Yahoo Mail, iCloud, IMAP and POP3. Its listing also describes a unified inbox for managing multiple accounts.
- Proton Mail: Encrypted Email
- Proton describes creating a free @proton.me or @protonmail.com address and switching between multiple Proton Mail accounts. The supplied listing does not establish a unified inbox for your existing Gmail or Microsoft accounts.
- Spark Mail: AI Email, Calendar
- Spark describes one unified inbox for accounts including Gmail, Microsoft Outlook, AOL, Yahoo, Hotmail, IMAP, GMX and iCloud. That makes mixed-provider use a clear part of its stated purpose.
For an organization-managed address, check which apps your administrator permits before relying on a compatibility list. An app naming your account type does not guarantee that your organization's sign-in policies will allow it.
